Led by Jean-Christophe Maillot, the company is currently touring across Europe with pieces from its repertoire including Romeo and Juliet, Lac and Copél-I-A, and will return in April with one of its signature creations, La Belle, first performed at the Grimaldi Forum in 2001. The company’s director-choreographer has sought to deliver a psychoanalytical reading of Perrault’s fairytale, ridding it of the sugar coating of the Disney cartoon, and introducing the second part of the tale that takes place after Aurora’s marriage to her prince. This interpretation evokes childhood fears and desires, with music by Tchaikovsky and scenery by Ernest Pignon-Ernest.
