The OPMC’s 2022–2023 season is underway: this seventh edition produced by its director, Kazuki Yamada, was inaugurated on 24 September by the splendid New World Symphony by Dvorak and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. This year’s programme, which runs until June, features seven concerts, with the spotlight on Sergei Rachmaninoff – in honour of the 150th anniversary of his birth – and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – now the subject of a mini-festival. Among the talented artists to be showcased this autumn are Swedish violin prodigy Daniel Lozakovich, an artist in residence, Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin, now a naturalised British citizen, who is inspired by his Yiddish roots and whose mother was his first piano teacher – and the energetic Portuguese pianist Mario Joao Pires.
